STEM Competition Workshop

The two-day STEM Competition Workshop aims to promote the organization of STEM competition teams in STEM competitions. We will invite CCSD STEM teachers, including those teacher mentors in the mentor training workshop and their colleagues, and summer camp student participants to attend the workshop. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The STEM Competition Workshop will be held at UNLV on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023. The tentative schedule is listed below:

· 9:00-9:30am Overview of STEM Competition Workshop
· 9:30am-12:00pm Parallel Session 1: Training on Vex V5 Robotics;
             Parallel Session 2: Training on Arduino-based Intelligent System;
· 12:00-1:00pm Lunch provided;
· 1:00-2:00pm Introduction of STEM competitions by competition organizers;
· 2:00-3:00pm Experience shared by successful teachers/students;
· 3:00-4:00pm Group discussion on how STEM competitions can promote students' interest in STEM;

Teachers' Responsibilities and Benefits

Teachers will attend the STEM Competition Workshop in both morning and afternoon. Each teacher will help recruit one or two students to attend the session on Oct. 22. And teachers are expected to organize team(s) with inclusion of female students to attend one STEM competition by June 2024. Support for STEM competition teams (at least one third of the team members should be female) are available based on application and needs.

Teacher Eligibility

All STEM teachers in CCSD middle and high schools are eligible to attend the workshop. The attendee must be a US citizen or permanent resident. Familiarity with C/C++ programming is preferred. Teachers from Title 1 schools and underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Totally 20 teachers will be recruited. Each participating teacher will receive $100 gift card.
